 Purpose and Mission

Like the rest of the world, North Kingstown is experiencing climate change. We are seeing flooding, intense rain
storms and extreme heat – and the impacts will intensify in the coming years.

Climate Conversations’ goal is to bring people together to talk about and plan for the climate change challenges
that lie ahead. There are no easy solutions, but there are actions that we can each take to reduce greenhouse gas
emissions and increase resilience. Climate Conversations start with what we can do in our own lives, in our homes
and in our town. There are also actions that are happening at the state and federal level that we can encourage
and support.

We hope that the people who attend the lectures will learn and strategize together, identifying steps to address
the climate crisis here in North Kingstown. The programs planned for the fall of 2024 are a first step. Our hope is
that program participants will stay engaged in the fight to address these issues.

“Adults keep saying we owe it to the young people, to give them hope, but I don’t want your
hope. I don’t want you to be hopeful. I want you to panic. I want you to feel the fear I feel everyday. I want you to act. I want you to act as you would in a crisis. I want you to act as if the house is on fire, because it is.”

Greta Thunberg, 17 year-old Swedish Activist
