The Insurance Climate

Matt Gendron is the General Counsel & Chief of Regulatory Compliance for the Rhode Island Division of Insurance and has focused his last ten years on the regulation of insurance companies.

In recent years, as climate risks are increasing, insurance premiums have also been increasing.  How are those two topics related and what are insurers doing to address the increased risks of climate change?  Are there steps consumers can take to help both reduce their vulnerabilities to climate change and to mitigate future insurance rate increases?  This talk will discuss the basics of how insurers derive their rates, what major factors can influence those rates, what newer tools insurers are utilizing, and how consumers can both prepare themselves for climate impacts and become better insurance risks.
